Breeding
The Pixl Pet Genetic Algorithm is unmatched in terms of intuitive complexity. Players who enjoy management-style gameplay should find a wealth of decisions they can make to optimize breeding outcomes and earnings. Pixl Pet Breeding is designed to be a standalone game experience and Play & Earn mechanism.

Just like in the real world two pets can breed together (so long as they're not directly related) and they will hatch an adorable baby Pixl Pet egg. Breeding two pets together will require players to consume an amount of $PIXL token (exact costs TBA).
Pet Supply will be modulated by this $PIXL cost a Breeding Cooldown and each Pet's unique Fertility.
- There are three potential scenarios for breeding
- a) Player A owns both pets used to breed
- Player selects two pets
- Player pays a breeding fee
- Player recieves Egg NFT
- Pet fertility decreases
- b) Player A owns one pet and uses breeding barn (wants to keep the offspring)
- Player selects another users pet in the 'stud barn'
- Player pays breeding fee to other player (treasury takes x% transaction tax)
- Player A recieves Egg NFT, Player B recieved PIXL
- Pet fertility decreases
- c) Player A owns one pet and uses breeding barn (wants to earn PIXL)
- Player puts their pet up for stud in 'stud barn'
- They are Player B in the above scenario
After your breeding is complete your new Pixl Pet Egg NFT can either be incubated (see Incubation), sold on the secondary market or hatched to add to your team.
Every Pixl Pet has a unique genetic profile (genome) - from its elemental mix to its appearance, the makeup of its stats, personality, and moves.
We have designed a genetic algorithm in which each bred pet's genetic profile will be influenced by the pool of traits within its direct family lineage - this means that the genetic signatures of family members within the direct ancestral family trees of the parents of your bred pet will influence the breeding outcomes of these pets, it is not purely random chance.
Thus much like in the real world:
- the abilities and preferences of parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on could have an impact on your offspring's traits and abilities
- some family members' traits may be more dominant than others
This genetic algorithm is proprietary so we can't tell you the secrets sitting behind it, nor will you explicitly know absolutely everything about your pet - we don't want to spoil the fun!
The breeding experience will cater to all players irrespective of the level of detail and attention they want to apply to this particular subset of the Pixlverse ecosystem - It is intuitive enough that new players or those who would like to focus their efforts elsewhere will find it incredibly easy to breed two pets together and produce a Pixl Pet egg; however it has also been meticulously designed with a huge amount of complexity sitting beneath the surface for those who want to explore breeding from a deep theorycrafting angle to optimize and control for specific breeding objectives.
Avid breeders through a process of experimentation and observation may be able to devise strategies or find optimal breeding partners that maximize their chance of success in breeding a pet that suits the specific objective they're trying to achieve.
Targeting a specific type of move - perhaps these two pets would breed well together? Targeting a specific spread of stats - perhaps those pets would breed well together?
We guess you're just going to have to give it a try and find out.
Genesis Pixl Pets are the foundation of the PV and contain the essence of the Pixlverse elements imbued through the Glitch
One of their most basic and immediate advantages is that have an unlimited breeding limit vs bred pets who have a variable but fixed fertility limit set at birth.
Genesis pets will be used to seed new moves/pet types at points in time in the future - so will be incredibly valuable for breeding for future moveset releases, etc.
There are several additional Genesis Pet Benefits that we're leaving unnannounced until the Genetic Algorithm nears completion in case of revision.
